I think I can do most, if not all, of the work myself.

Patio

The patio might have to be rebuilt from scratch. The existing roof is simply plywood, roofing paper, and shingles. I want a new roof of corrugated material, supported by eight posts in a semi-decorative arrangement.

The biggest issue is going to be making sure the house side of the patio cover stays below the edge of the house roof. There will have to be rafters running from the house to the outside edge of the patio, then purlins running cross-wise to support the corrugated panels. Ultimately, the patio cover will be the same size as the existing cover, but should stand up well without falling apart due to weather and neglect. Provided I follow my layout plan, the patio itself will also feel slightly more enclosed because of the arrangement of posts and planters.

I also want that horrific shed removed from the yard! I haven't actually stepped inside it for years, and it's just an eyesore. Having opened up the garage, anything that's in the shed — or that was in the shed and is still worth saving — is now in the garage. Thankfully!

Once the shed is gone and the new patio is up, I can do any landscaping myself. That will entail taking out the agave, cutting back the Texas Ranger bush, filling any holes and smoothing the ground, taking up the existing red concrete paver walks (I'll use those along the west side of the house), and laying new sidewalks with the same pavers I used in the boulevard strip. I'll also run a base of desert rock along the house. That's not going to be easy work, but I should be able to finish it in a couple of weekends.
